Admissions - Financial Support of Graduate Students
The Division of Biological Sciences offers academically
qualified applicants complete and equitable support. Students in
good academic standing are guaranteed an initial four years of support,
(conditional on satisfactory academic progress) in a package that
includes the cost of tuition, health insurance, and a
stipend for
living expenses. Foreign students should note that many of the
Division's sources of funding cannot be used to support foreign
students. We therefore encourage you to seek whatever financial
aid or fellowships you can obtain from your native country in addition
to your application to the program.
The graduate stipend is competitive with awards offered
at comparable institutions, is established at a level affording a
reasonable local standard of living, and is adjusted anually to keep
pace with increases in the cost of living. Funding may come from
one of several different sources, including interdepartmental training
grants in Cancer Biology, Cardiovascular Pathophysiology, Digestive
Diseases, Genetics, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular and Cellular
Biology, or divisional graduate student support. After that time,
continued support for graduate students is provided by individual
faculty mentor's research grants. Some speciality fellowships are
available and new and continuing graduate students are encouraged to
seek individual merit awards (NSF awards, NIH Individual NRSAs,
Department of Defense awards, etc.) whenever possible.
